Three members of the banned militant outfit Jama-atul Mujahideen Bangladesh, JMB were arrested from different parts of Chittagong in Bangladesh. Babul Akter, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Police said, the trio were arrested by Detective Branch of Chittagong Metropolitan Police following a night- long raid on suspected hide-outs of the JMB. He said, a large amount of ammunition, automatic guns besides some military uniforms were found in the hideouts.

Bangladesh has recently seen a wave of violence from Islamist radicals. Four bloggers, one publisher, and 2 foreigners have been killed during the year. On 25th December, amidst programmes observing Eid-e- Miladun-nabi, a suicide bomb attack on a Ahmadiyya mosque in Rajshahi left 1 dead and 11 injured.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police, Babul Akter said the trio were arrested following a night- long raid on the militant hide-out. The Police action, he said, was based on information revealed during interrogation of JMB activists earlier arrested. The police chief said a highly sophisticated US-made sniper rifle, ammunition, large amount of explosives & bomb-making material, besides several Bangladesh army uniforms were found on the site. On 24th December, police had seized a large quantity of explosives and suicide vests during a 14-hour raid on another JMB hideout in Dhaka.
