polling was held for the first phase of the general election to 91 Parliamentary constituencies, spread over 18 states and two Union Territories on Thursday barring a few incidents.
In Assam, over 67 per cent polling was recorded till 5 pm. In Sikkim, simultaneous elections for 32 seats of the State Assembly and the lone Lok Sabha seat registered over 60 per cent voting till 4 pm.
In Nagaland, 83 per cent voting was reported for Assembly bye-election and 73 per cent for lone Lok Sabha seat till 4 PM. In Mizoram, 61.29 per cent voter turnout was recorded for the lone Lok Sabha Constituency – Mizoram ST reserved a seat and for by-election in Aizawl West-I assembly constituency.
A voter turnout of 44 per cent has been recorded in Andaman and Nicobar Islands till 3 p.m while it was around 80 per cent in West Bengal till 5 pm. Maharashtra registered 46.13 per cent and Andhra Pradesh 54 per cent voting till the same period. In Telangana, over 60 per cent electorates cast their votes till 5 PM. In Odisha, the average poll percentage was 66 till 5 pm.
In Bihar, 50 per cent polling has been recorded in four Naxal affected Lok Sabha seats till 5 pm.
In Jammu and Kashmir, the overall poll percentage was 46.17 till 3 PM in two Lok Sabha seats of Baramulla and Jammu in the first phase of the general election.
