The death toll in the fire accident in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh has risen to 11. The incident occurred when a fire broke out in a hotel turned Covid facilty Centre in Vijayawada today.

The centrally located Swarna Palace Hotel was taken on lease by Ramesh Hospital and turned into a temporary Covid-19 treatment facility. According to local sources, nearly 50 persons were being treated at the facility.

At least 30 Covid patients were getting treatment in the Covid Centre and another 10 medical staff were assisting them at the time of the tragedy. The fire department, police and NDRF teams rescued covid patients and shifted them to the nearby Covid Centers. Condition of some patients is said to be critical. AP Home Minister Mekathoti Sucharitha visited the accident spot and gave necessary guidelines to the Officials.

AP Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan has expressed grief over the fire accident and asked the Officials to extend medical support to the affected people.

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed shock at the fire accident and enquired about the incident. He declared 50 lakh rupees ex gratia to each of the kin of the deceased. The CM also directed officials to take necessary steps to provide better medical facilities to the victims and also ordered an enquiry on the accident.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy over phone to express his grief and shock over the fire incident and assured him of all the assistance.

Director General of Police Gowtham Sawang visited the fire accident site and made an on the spot enquiry.
