With the Modi govt’s focus on development in rural areas ,the Panchayati Raj Ministry on Tuesday held a brainstorming session to discuss new initiatives to better serve rural folk.

Attending the meeting were state ministers and senior officials of Panchayati Raj and Minister for Panchayati Raj Chaudhary Birender Singh presented MNREGA report card for 2015-16.

The report highlighted the success of the Mission since the NDA came to power.

It says that more than 10 % of the rural population were given employment for 100 days in the year, of this, 55% were women, 22 % were from SC and 18 % from the schedule tribe.

More data has revealed that nearly 6% of inhabitants of drought affected areas have benefited with employment through MNREGA. Till date 62 % have received timely wages under the scheme.
