Bangladesh government on Wednesday announced a major reshuffle of the jail administration following the daring escape of two militants when they were being taken to the court by the police on Sunday. Three Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) and two senior jail superintendents have been transferred as per the notification issued by the Home Ministry of Bangladesh.

Immediately after the incident, five policemen were suspended and cases against 20 persons lodged in connection with the case. Police announced a reward of Taka 10 lakh for any information on the escaped militants.

Alarmed by the daring escape of the two militants on the death row convicted for the 2015 murder of the publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan, the government has provided helmets and bulletproof jackets to the court police. Measures have been taken to repair the non-functional CCTV cameras and install new ones on each floor of the court building.

The two death row convicts were snatched from the police custody in Dhaka on Sunday after spraying some substance on the face of the policemen. Both were members of the banned militant group Ansar al-Islam.
The fugitive militants have not yet been arrested.
