Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi movement has claimed responsibility for a third missile attack on Israel, signalling a widening of the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict and raising concerns of another active front in West Asia.
Houthi military spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Saree said in a televised statement that the group carried out its “third military operation”, firing a barrage of ballistic missiles at what he described as “sensitive Israeli enemy targets”. He added that the attack was conducted in coordination with Iran and Lebanon’s Hezbollah and warned that operations would continue until the aggression on all resistance fronts stops. Israeli authorities said air defence systems intercepted the incoming threats, with no immediate reports of casualties or damage. Air raid sirens were reported in southern Israeli areas, including Eilat and parts of the Negev desert.
The latest strike follows earlier missile and drone launches by the Houthis since late March, marking the group’s growing involvement in the expanding regional conflict. The development effectively opens another pressure point for Israel, alongside ongoing tensions with Iran and Hezbollah in Lebanon. The Houthis, also known as Ansar Allah, control large parts of northern Yemen, including the capital, Sanaa. The group have previously launched long-range missiles and drones toward Israel and targeted shipping routes in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, and their control of Yemen’s western coastline gives them the ability to threaten traffic through the strategic Bab el Mandeb strait. The renewed attacks have raised concerns about disruption to maritime trade and further escalation across West Asia, as Iran-aligned groups appear to increase coordination. There has been no independent confirmation of damage from the latest strike, and the situation remains fluid.
