Yeddyurappa on Saturday released a statement, saying that he would quit on Sunday afternoon.

Yeddyurappa decision came after an early morning meeting between the BJP’s central observers and him. But the fight is still on over who will succeed him.

While party leadership wants to make Yeddyurappa’s rival Ananth Kumar or Lingayat leader Jagdish Shettar the next chief minister, Yeddyurappa has strongly opposed both of them and wants former state president Sadananda Gowda for the job and the state presidentship for himself.

BJP State President K S Eeshwarappa said the legislative party meeting to elect the new Chief Minister will be convened after the resignation of Yeddyurappa Sunday.

Meanwhile, two bus loads of BJP MLAs visited Central Leaders Rajnath Singh and Arun Jaitley. State Home Minister R. Ashoka said, the new chief minister will be decided on the basis of the opinion of all legislators.

To ensure that his rivals don’t take charge Yeddyurappa continued to showcase his clout with MLAs like he did on Friday.

MLA Sanjay Patil said, “We had a one to one meeting with Arun Jaitley and Rajnath Singh, we expressed our views on what’s happening in the state, the high command’s decision is final and by Sunday we will have a new chief minister.”
