in the Lokayukta (ombudsman) court later in the day in response to the summons issued by its judge N.K. Sudhindra Rao Aug 8. Though Yeddyurappa was to appear in the trial court Saturday, his counsel pleaded for his exemption as he was suffering from fever.

In another case, filed by Yeddyurappa to quash chapter 22 of the Lokayuktha report on illegal mining, which indicts him for the offence, the advocate for Yeddyurappa, Ravi B Naik made a submission to withdraw the petition in the High Court today. Justice K L Manjunath and Justice H S Kempanna dismissed the submission as not tenable under the provisions of the Constitution. Subsequently, the original petition and the application were dismissed.

He was forced to resign as Chief Minister of Karnataka on July 31 when a report on mining declared him guilty of accepting kickbacks from companies who were given mining licenses.

Latest report said that Yeddyurappa has applied for bail in the Lokayuktha court  after Karnataka High Court had rejected his application for anticipatory bail in the same case in the morning.

In the presence of Yeddyurappa in the court, Lokayuktha Special Judge Sudhindra Rao adjourned the case to September 7 after accepting the bail application of Yeddyurappa and 14 others accused in the land denotification case.

In another development, the anticipatory bail application filed by Yeddyurappa in the Upper Bhadra irrigation project tender related case was adjourned to September 5 after preliminary submission in the Karnataka High Court.
