World Environment Day will be celebrated across the world tomorrow. On the occasion Nagaland Governor PB Acharya while extending greetings to the people of the State, expressed the hope that the day will give thrust to the commitment towards preservation and protection of the pristine environment.

In a message, the Governor opined that the people of Nagaland have been living in harmony with nature since time immemorial. However, he lamented that hasty and unrestrained industrialization, urbanization and increased human intervention have resulted into degradation of environment leading to serious climate conditions and global warming.

The Governor appealed to all departments and agencies, educational institutions, nature lovers, industrialists, corporates, traders, NGOs to come forward and protect the environment for a better future generation.

World Environment Day should not be restricted to single day: Vardhan

Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Dr Harsh Vardhan today said the real sentiment behind World Environment Day should not be restricted to a single day, but must pervade every moment of the day, till the World Environment Day next year. Addressing a function on the eve of World Environment Day in New Delhi today, Dr Vardhan emphasised the need to create positive energy and awakening among the people.

He urged the people to use public transport more, use cycle, reduce the use of air-conditioners and work towards realising the Prime Minister’s vision of Swacchh Bharat. He also appealed to the people to use water judiciously and in appropriate amount.

The Environment Minister appealed to NGOs, professionals, teachers and students to make environmental protection, nature and biodiversity conservation a strong social movement. Dr. Harsh Vardhan pointed out that the worship of nature and its protection is in DNA of every Indian.
