India have won the Women’s Asia Cup 2022 after defeating Sri Lanka in the final by 8 wickets in the Final at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Bangladesh.
The Women in Blue have defeated the Lankan for the fifth time in an Asia Cup final. This is India’s record seventh Women’s Asia Cup title. It turned out to be an easy chase as Smriti Mandhana led the innings with a half-century, scoring an unbeaten 51 off 25 balls. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur also contributed with 11 not out as India won the game with 69 balls to spare.
Earlier, India restricted Sri Lanka to 65 for 9 in the stipulated 20 overs. Inoka Ranaweera 18 not out was the top-scorer for Sri Lanka. The other batter to cross the double figure was Oshadi Ranasinghe who scored 13 runs. For India, Renuka Singh picked up three wickets.
India entered the final with a comfortable win over Thailand on Thursday, while Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by One run in the second semifinal.
