World Health Organisation (WHO) stated that communication with the US on the bird flu outbreak has become difficult. This is due to the US withdrawal from the UN health agency.
WHO spokesperson Christian Lindmeier addressed the issue at a press briefing in Geneva.
Since the outbreak of H5N1 bird flu in the US, nearly 70 US farm workers have been infected with H5N1 bird flu.
The US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported no evidence of human-to-human transmission. CDC reports that Public health risk remains low. However, individuals exposed to birds, poultry, or livestock face higher infection risks.
Concerns have been raised about the impact of the US withdrawal from the WHO, particularly regarding the sharing of critical information.
The situation worsened after a second bird flu strain was found in Nevada dairy cattle. This has sparked fears of a wider outbreak.
