The Indore District and Session Court in Madhya Pradesh has awarded three years of rigorous imprisonment to two persons for cheating and forgery during an entrance examination conducted in 2013. Our correspondent reports that the court on Saturday sent the convicted persons to jail.

Prakash Bariya of Jhabua district was caught appearing in the test on behalf of Akshat Singh, a resident of Bhilwara in Rajasthan. Bariya was convicted of impersonation while Singh was held guilty of hiring a bogus candidate to write on his behalf at the exam held at Indore. The court of special additional session judge VK Mittal sentenced the duo to jail after investigators proved the charges against them.

Court verdict was seen as a concerted effort spearheaded by the Supreme Court to catch culprits in the Vyapam exam and recruitment scam in the state. The multi- crore scandal in the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board, or Vyapam, apparently involves politicians, officials and businessmen.
