The festival of Dhanteras is being celebrated in different parts of the country today. Dhanteras is also known as Dhan Trayodashi and Dhanwantri Jayanti. People consider this as an auspicious day to make new purchases, especially gold or silver articles and new utensils. The day also sees heavy purchases of appliances and automobiles.
The Government has been urging people to buy local products during the festive season. During his Mann Ki Baat address on All India Radio last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people to be vocal for local while shopping for festivals like Diwali. He had asked people to prioritise buying more locally made products for festivals as a way to revive the country’s economy.
The Prime Minister had said, the fervour of festivals and the glitter and sparkle of the marketplace are interconnected. But this time when you go shopping, do remember our resolve of ‘Vocal for Local’. While purchasing items from the market, we have to accord priority to local products.
The Prime Minister had said that today when we are going vocal for local, the whole world are also becoming a fan of our local products and many of our local products have the potential of becoming global.
The call to buy local products forms the base of the government’s vision for a Atmanirbhar Bharat to help the economy recover from the coronavirus pandemic.
In the National Capital, people visited in different markets in the city to purchase metal items and sweets. Ministry of Minority Affairs has also organised Hunar Haat at Delhi Haat, Pitampura with the theme of Vocal for Local which will continue till 22nd of this month where indigenous exquisite products made from clay, metal, wooden and jute products are the major attraction.
In view of Covid-19, Government has repeatedly appealed people to follow Covid appropriate behavior like wearing of mask, maintaining social distance and washing hands with soap or sanitizer.
