Violence in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh today echoed in both the Houses of Parliament. During Zero Hour, Samajwadi Party MP Akhilesh Yadav alleged that the incident in Sambhal was a well-planned conspiracy. He demanded that action should be taken against the police personnel and administrative officials involved in this matter.
“The incident that took place in Sambhal was a well-planned conspiracy… Bypolls were supposed to be held in Uttar Pradesh on November 13, but it was postponed to November 20… A murder case should be filed against the police and the administration. This is a fight between Delhi and Lucknow,” Akhilesh Yadav said.
Bypolls for nine Assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, which were initially scheduled to be held on November 13, were later changed to November 20.
In the Rajya Sabha, Samajwadi Party MP Prof. Ram Gopal Yadav raised the issue and alleged highhandedness of State Police in the matter. He said five people were killed and 20 people were injured in the incident. Later, the members of Samajwadi Party and TMC staged a walkout from the Upper House protesting over the issue.
Five persons were killed in violence that erupted in Sambhal last week during a protest against a court-ordered survey of the Mughal-era Shahi Jama Masjid. The order was passed following claims that the mosque was constructed on the ruins of a Hindu temple.
Akhilesh Yadav pointed out the alacrity with which the order for the survey of the mosque was passed even before listening to the other side. He also questioned the need for a second survey of the mosque.
“On November 19, a survey was conducted, and the report was to be given to the court. On November 24, another survey was conducted, during which people gathered to find out the reason for the survey. The Circle Officer abused the people gathered there and resorted to lathicharge. After this, police opened fire, during which dozens were injured and five were killed,” the Samajwadi Party chief said.
Tearing into the BJP, Akhilesh said talks of excavating historical structures throughout the country being done by the saffron party and its allies would destroy the brotherhood.
“The BJP is constantly talking about excavations… it will one day destroy the brotherhood and harmony of the country. The BJP does not believe in the Constitution,” he said
