Fugitive Businessman Vijay Mallya’s resignation from Rajya Sabha has been rejected on procedural grounds by its chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari. The upper house’s Secretary General today said, Mallya resignation letter does not bear his signature in original. Mr. Mallya, currently in London, had reportedly tendered his resignation as Member of Rajya Sabha yesterday.

As per Rule 213 of RS procedures, the resignation must be voluntary and genuine.
Earlier today, the ethics committee of the House had recommended that he be expelled. The businessman is facing legal proceedings for alleged default of loans worth over nine thousand crore rupees from various banks.
