Vice President of India and Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari gave gave his approval to the Central Bureau of Investigation, CBI to prosecute JD(U) MP Anil Sahani against whom the agency had filed a charge sheet for alleged cheating and corruption in LTC Scam. The Bihar MP is reportedly the first from the Elders’ House who will be prosecuted by CBI after sanction in this regard was given by the Chairman.
The agency had filed a charge sheet against Sahani alleging that he, in conspiracy with other persons, used forged e-tickets and fake boarding passes to defraud Rajya Sabha to the tune of 23.71 lakh rupees as travel and dearness allowance reimbursement without undertaking the actual journey. Besides Sahani, others named in the CBI charge sheet were Anup Singh Panwar, an employee of Delhi-based Air Cruise Travels Private Limited, N S Nair, then Office Superintendent (Traffic), Air India and one Arvind Tiwari.
JD(U) leader K C Tyagi has said party will summon its MP Anil Sahani and ask him to clear his stand. Mr Tyagi said, the party is in constant touch with the Vice President’s Office. He expressed concern over the development and said inquiry is being made into the charges.
Meanwhile, Anil Sahani against whom CBI had filed a charge sheet said it is a conspiracy against him. He said truth will prevail in the matter. Sahani said if found guilty he will quit politics.
