Campaigning for the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections ended in the 14 seats of Lok Sabha in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday (18th May 2024) evening. Senior BJP leader and Union Minister, Rajnath Singh addressed public meetings in Basti on Saturday (18th May 2024). Senior BJP leader and Union Minister, Amit Shah held a road show in favour of party candidate Smriti Irani in Amethi on Saturday (18th May 2024). Mr. Shah also addressed political rallies in Banda and Jhansi.
Meanwhile, Bahujan Samaj Party Chief Mayawati addressed a public gathering in Basti. The voting for the fifth phase will be held on 20th May. Akashvani correspondent reports, 14 seats which will go for poll on May 20 are Raebareli, Amethi and Lucknow, Mohanlalganj, Hamirpur, Jalaun, Jhansi, Banda, Fatehpur, Kaushambhi, Faizabad, Barabanki, Kaiserganj and Gonda. Campaigning on these seats stopped this evening. All these 14 seats are important for BJP because the party had won 13 of these 14 seats in the 2019 elections. The only seat that BJP lost was Rae Bareli seat, which was won by former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is contesting from Lucknow parliamentary seat as a BJP candidate for the third time. Rajnath Singh is contesting against SP candidate Ravidas Mehrotra and BSP candidate Sarwar Malik. This time Smriti Irani is contesting against Congress’s KL Sharma in Amethi. Rahul Gandhi is contesting from Rae Bareli against BJP’s Dinesh Pratap Singh. Preparations have been completed to conduct peaceful and fair voting on all the seats in this phase.
