Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan says, his country would not accept a US alliance with Kurdish forces fighting in Syria. At a joint news conference with President Donald Trump after their talks at White House, Erdogan said, there is no place for terrorist organisations in the future of the region.

Referring to the the Kurdish Peoples’ Protection Units (YPG) in Syria, he said ,it is absolutely unacceptable to take the YPG into consideration as partners in the region and never allow those groups who want to change the ethnic or religious structures in the region to use terrorism as a pretext. President Trump said Turkey is an important ally in the fight against terrorism. He said both the countries had a great relationship and will make it even better.

Turkey views the YPG as terrorists and wants to stop them taking more territory in Syria. The US sees the YPG as distinct from the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) and also as a key partner in the fight against so-called Islamic State (IS). Pentagon has announced that Kurdish elements of the Syrian Democratic Forces, including the YPG, would be given weapons to help drive IS militants from their Syrian stronghold of Raqqa.
