The US state department has asked Pakistan to ensure that it’s territory is not used for planning attacks in India.
This comes close on the heels of PM Modi’s address to a joint sitting of the US Congress, in which he said without naming Pakistan, that terrorism is being incubated in India’s neighbourhood.
Even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to India after a highly productive 5 nation tour including US Obama administration christened his vision of Indo-US ties as “Modi Doctrine” and US asked Pakistan to ensure that its territory is not used for planning attacks in India.
While addressing the US Congress Prime Minister Narendra Modi had condemned terrorism in the sternest of words and took an indirect swipe at Pakistan for sheltering terrorists.
No sooner than PM arrived in India..US tightened the screws on Pakistan.US State Department’s Deputy Spokesperson Mark Toner said that this is one of the steps that the US is encouraging Pakistan to take for improvement of its relations with India.
US’s communication to Pakistan comes close on the heels of PM’s address to the US Congress in which he said that although the shadow of terrorism is spreading across the world, it is incubated in India’s neighbourhood.
Referring to terrorism as the biggest threat globally.PM stressed that it needs to be fought at many levels and, the traditional tools of military, intelligence or diplomacy alone would not be able to win this fight.
The US State Department also said that Pakistan was one of the issues discussed between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Barack Obama on Tuesday.
On the back of US’s communication to Pakistan, Govt of India reiterated that Pakistan should act against terror groups operating from its territory.
Reflecting the deep impact that PM Modi’s visit had on Indo-US ties the Obama administration described his visit as “historic”and christened his vision of bilateral ties as “Modi Doctrine”.

Growing ties between India and U.S is causing consternation in Pakistan.Pakistan Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz said that the US approaches Pakistan whenever it needs it, and abandons it when it doesn’t need Pakistan.US however has rejected the allegation saying ‘US’s bilateral relations with India and Pakistan are separate and stand on their own merits’.
Earlier, US State Department in its annual ‘Country Reports on Terrorism – 2015’ report said that Pakistan has not taken sufficient action against terror groups like LeT and JeM, blamed for attacks in India while noting that these outfits continue to operate, train, organise and fundraise in Pakistan.
China too has for the first time, publicly acknowledged the role of Pakistan in 26/11 terror attack in Mumbai.
Chinese State Television CCTV9 has, in a documentary aired recently, highlighted the role of the Lashkar-e-Taiba and its sponsors in Pakistan in the attack.
While pressure is growing on Pakistan to stop sheltering and sponsoring anti-India terror activities on its territory a defiant Pakistan is refusing to act.
