One US service member has been rescued after an F-15 Eagle fighter aircraft was shot down over Iran, according to American sources cited by CNN. The status of the second crew member remained uncertain as US authorities launched an urgent search and rescue operation inside the country.
Iranian officials claimed responsibility for bringing down the aircraft. According to Iranian state media, the country’s military shot down the US fighter jet and appealed to local residents to help locate the American crew members. Reports said authorities even announced a reward for anyone who finds and hands over the crew to security forces.
Meanwhile in Washington, DC, Donald Trump has not yet made a detailed public statement regarding the ongoing rescue mission. However, in a television interview on Friday, he indicated that the downing of the aircraft would not derail ongoing diplomatic talks with Iran.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions between United States and Iran, raising concerns about the potential impact on regional security and ongoing negotiations between the two countries.
