Defending champion Spain’s Rafael Nadal has entered the semi-final of the men’s singles of the US open. He won the longest match of this year’s tournament in a classic five-set quarter-final against Dominic Thiem.
Top seed Nadal edged a tense fifth-set tie-break to win 0-6, 6-4, 7-5, 6-7, 7-6.

 

Argentina’s Juan Martin Del Potro has reached semi-finals after beating American John Isner 6-7, 6-3, 7-6, 6-2. Croatia’s Marin Cilic will clash with Japan’s Kei Nishikori tonight at 10. 45 pm. Australian John Millman will face former champion Novak Djokovic of Serbia tomorrow in the quarterfinals.

In women’s singles, six-time champion Serena Williams stormed into the semi-finals beating Czech eighth seed Karolina Pliskova 6-4 6-3 in straight sets. Next, Williams will face Latvian 19th seed Anastasija Sevastova, who earlier defeated defending champion American Sloane Stephens in the quarter-finals.

In other women’s singles, Japan’s Naomi Osaka will face Ukraine’s Lesia Tsurenko tonight at 9.30 pm, while Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro will clash with last year’s runner-up Madison Keys tomorrow in the quarter-finals.
