In one of the deadliest mass shootings in United States history, more than 50 people were killed and over 200 injured in a mass shooting at a Las Vegas concert in the United States.
Police said a gunman opened fire from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel toward an open-air music festival being held close by.

“A gunman firing from a Las Vegas hotel rained a rapid-fire barrage on a huge outdoor concert festival on Sunday night, sending thousands of people fleeing until SWAT units found and killed him. More than 50 victims died, and at least 200 others were wounded, officials said, making it one of the deadliest mass shootings in United States history”, reports NEW YORK TIMES.
Police said a suspect identified as a local resident had been shot and killed by officers. They said they were looking for a companion travelling with the suspect as a person of interest.
Police have also advised people to avoid the area. The shooting occured at about 22:30 local time. Authorities have shutdown some places of the Las Vegas Strip.
Sheriff Joseph Lombardo of Clark County told reporters early Monday morning that more than 50 people were killed and more than 200 injured. He identified the gunman as Stephen Paddock, 64. He said the police were seeking “a companion” named Marilou Danley, a woman he described as Asian and 4-foot-11.
Several SWAT teams were sent to the hotel immediately after the first reports of the shooting at 10:08 p.m., and officers overheard on police radio reported being pinned down by gunfire. Shortly before midnight the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported that “one suspect is down,” and soon thereafter the police said they did not believe there were any more active gunmen.
Many hotels on the Las Vegas strip close to the scene remained on police lock down and parts of Las Vegas Boulevard were shut. People sheltered in hotels, restaurants and at Las Vegas McCarran airport.
Some flights were diverted after news of the incident emerged.
The country music festival had been taking place since Friday at several hotels on the Las Vegas strip.
External Affairs Ministry has said, no Indian national is affected in Las Vegas shooting incident in the US.
Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said, India’s Consulate in San Fransisco is continuously monitoring the situation on a real time basis.
Flights in and out of the McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas have been temporarily halted because of the incident.
McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas said that some flights destined for the airport were diverted because of police activity. The airport is just east of the Mandalay hotel, and after the shooting there were reports of people fleeing the concert by running onto an airport runway.
