President Joe Biden made calls to Maine Governor Janet Mills, two senators and a local congressman to offer federal support.

at least 22 people were killed and nearly 60 others injured in a mass shooting incident in Lewiston, Maine in the United States, last night. Police said, the shooting took place at a restaurant and bowling alley.

The suspect has been identified as Robert Card, a certified firearms instructor and a member of the US Army Reserves. A manhunt has been launched for him. Police have warned that the suspect is armed and dangerous.

His vehicle has been located in Lisbon, about 8 miles southeast of the city of Lewiston, where the shooting took place. Lewiston is part of Androscoggin County and about 56 km north of Maine’s largest city, Portland.

The White House in a statement said the President Joe Biden made calls to Maine Governor Janet Mills, two senators and a local congressman to offer federal support.

“The president spoke by phone individually to Maine Governor Janet Mills, Senators Angus King and Susan Collins, and Congressman Jared Golden about the shooting in Lewiston, Maine and offered full federal support in the wake of this horrific attack,” it said.

Lewiston Mayor Carl Sheline said he is “heartbroken for our city and our people” and urged residents to follow recommended guidelines.
