A major fire destroyed a building and injured 23 people in New York, just days after the city’s deadliest inferno in a quarter of a century.

The blaze broke out yesterday in The Bronx, the same northern borough where last week’s fire claimed 12 lives.

New York City fire chief Daniel Nigro said, our units arrived and were immediately faced with heavy fire.

Numerous people were brought out of the building by the firefighters on scene.

A spokesman for the fire department later told media that four of the injured were in a life-threatening condition. The fire left 11 families, including 29 adults and 11 children, homeless.

An additional 19 people, including a firefighter, suffered minor injuries. All were taken to Jacobi Medical Center for treatment.

The harrowing blaze comes nearly a week after a Bronx fire killed 12 people, including four children, and left 22 families homeless. The fires are about two miles away from each other.
