In the United States, two students were killed in a shooting at Antioch High School in Nashville yesterday. According to police, a 17-year-old student armed with a pistol fired multiple shots in the school cafeteria, killing a female student. The shooter, identified as Solomon Henderson, then turned the gun on himself and died of self-inflicted wounds. A third student was injured with a grazing wound. The deceased victim was identified as 16-year-old Josselin Corea Escalante.

The shooting marked the first of President Donald Trump’s second term.  In 2024, there were 39 school shootings in the United States, the highest number since Education Week began tracking such incidents in 2018. Overall, the Gun Violence Archive reported 16,088 gun-related deaths in 2024.
