The Rajya Sabha today witnessed heated exchanges between the opposition and treasury benches on the issue of publication of a magazine by the students’ council of Puducherry University.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, D Raja of the CPI accused the local BJP and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad volunteers of organising a demonstration protesting against the publication, which carries the photographs of people including Rohit Vemula of Hyderabad University. He said such incidents had occurred in JNU and Hyderabad University.

Responding to this, Information and Broadcasting Minister Venkiah Naidu asked the member not to club the incident at JNU where anti-Indian slogans were raised, with Puducherry University incident. Following this, the House witnessed heated arguments.
