The 1st phase of UP elections saw heavey turout in amid tight security. Voters queue up to cast their ballots in 73 constituencies of 15 districts of western Uttar Pradesh. Nearly 60 percent polling has been reported till 4 pm.
Among the 73 constituencies some very important one’s like Shamli, Muzaffarnagar and Baghpath which will go to poll, the largest one is Sahibabad.
The major battle is between 839 candidates from Bhartiya Janta Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, allies Congress and Samajwadi Party and Rashtriya Lok Dal.
It is estimated, that around 2.6 crore people would cast their votes today, out of which over one crore are women. Many Divyangs were seen enthusiastically exercising their franchise.
The elderly too set an example and have come out to vote in large numbers.
Special arrangements have been made with deployment of paramilitary forces in sensitive areas. 836 companies of paramilitary forces deployed while 5140 polling station marked as critical.
Voting began at 7 AM and will end at 5 PM. Nearly 2 crore 60 lakh people are deciding the political fate of 839 candidates, including 77 women today.
Impeccable security arrangements are in place with heavy deployment of Central Para Military Forces with the local police and security staff maintaining strict vigil on the roads. The polling is going on in a very peaceful manner as no untoward incident has been reported from anywhere so far.
