The swearing in ceremony of new Lokayukta Justice Virendra Singh In Uttar Pradesh has been postponed. official spokesperson of Raj Bhawan , Anjum Naqvi said that the programme scheduled for tomorrow, has been postponed and new dates have yet not been decided. He however refused to give the reasons for postponement.
Justice (Retd) Virendra Singh’s name had been cleared by the Supreme Court, and a few days ago Governor Ram Naik had issued notification to appoint him as new Lokayukta of the state.
Justice Virendra Singh was scheduled to take oath of office and secrecy on 20th December. A petition had been filed in the Supreme Court in this regard and it was listed for hearing for today.
After the state Additional Advocate General informed the Apex Court that oath had been deferred, the Apex Court reschduled the matter for listening for the 4th of January.
The outgoing Lokayukta Justice NK Mehrotra has spent over eight years on the post of state Lokayukta and his extended tenure also ended in March 2014.
