Hectic campaign is underway for seventh phase of polling in Uttar Pradesh with Varanasi becoming the Centre stage of political activities. Stalwarts from all major political parties are engaged in hectic poll campaigns in this religious city.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi started his campaign in the temple town of Varanasi on Saturday with a roadshow along the route to Shri Kashi Vishwanath temple and Kaal Bhairav temple.
As 49 constituencies in the state voted in the sixth phase, Varanasi is playing host to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and Bahujan Samaj Party Chief Mayawati as well.
It was truly a historic moment for the people of Uttar Pradesh when Prime Minster Narendra Modi visited the temple town of Varanasi, where he led a ‘Janta Darshan’ program, starting from the Banaras Hindu University.
Prime Minister Modi started his ‘janta Darshan’ on Saturday by paying floral tributes to the statue of ideologue Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya.
People turned out in large numbers, as the prime minister’s cavalcade moved.
‘Subah Banaras, Sham Banaras; Modi Tere Naam Banaras’ and ‘Modi, Modi’ slogans were braised by the supporters as he waved at them.
Prime Ministe Modi travelled till Kashi Vishwanath temple, where he offered prayers to the deity. He also visited the deity at Kaal Bhairav temple, which is considered the guardian of the city.
