Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh said that CBI enquiry would be the only alternative to bring out the truth.

The BJP also accused the Mayawati Government of shielding the accused. BJP spokesman Prakash Javdekar said that CB-CID is not the right agency to carry out the probe.

Meanwhile the National Commission for Women, NCW has taken suo motu cognizance of the incident and demanded a thorough probe. NCW Chairperson Yasmin Abrar said that the UP government should take strict action against the accused and maintain law and order in the State. She said that the Commission was concerned about the actions of the UP Police.

The body of the victim was found on a tree in the police compound in Lakhimpur after she had reportedly entered the compound while grazing her cattle. The National Human Rights Commission has also sought a detailed report from the UP government on the incident within four weeks.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Lucknow Zone Subesh Kumar Singh said that departmental inquiry has begun against all the 11 suspended policemen. He said swab of the girl is being sent to a laboratory at Lucknow or Agra to confirm if girl was raped. He has denied charges for cover up of the incident. He said, three policemen have been detained on charges of destroying evidence in the case.
The Divisional Commissioner has suspended all the three doctors who had conducted the first post mortem of the girl.
