Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today welcomed the decision of the apex court to allow the government to conduct urban body elections in the State.
The Supreme Court today allowed the reservation for the Other Backward Classes (OBC) in the upcoming urban local body elections in Uttar Pradesh and directed the State Election Commission to release a notification regarding the same.
In a tweet, Yogi Adityanath said that his government is committed to conducting Urban Local Body elections while following the reservation rules for other backward castes.
The Uttar Pradesh government had submitted a report, regarding the issue of reservation to OBCs in the State Urban Local Body elections to the Apex Court after a five-member committee set up by it looked into the matter.
