Twenty Five 25 people have been arrested in connection with yesterday’s violence in Saharanpur in which one person was killed and several injured. Police has also lodged three FIRs at Badgaon police station against several unknown persons.
Official sources said, a financial assistance of 15 lakh rupees is being paid to the family of the victim. 50,000 rupees are being given to those with serious injuries. A team of top officers – including Secretary Home Mani Prasad Misra and ADG Law and Order Aditya Misra – has been sent to Saharanpur by the state government to maintain law and order.
Security has also been tightened in the area.Yesterday’s violence occurred when some people, who were returning after attending a public meeting of BSP Chief Mayawati, were attacked by a group.
Spokesperson of the state government, Srikant Sharma termed the incident as unfortunate and said that all efforts are being made to control the situation. He has accused the Opposition of exploiting the situation in the district.
