Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said, the government has full sympathy with the ex-serviceman who had allegedly committed suicide over OROP. Responding to a media query on politics over OROP issue, Mr Jaitley there seems to be some procedural problems at the bank level. He said, it does not behove senior national leaders to exploit the situation.
He said, unnecessary controversy is courted on the issue and the NDA government has fulfilled long pending demand of ex-servicemen. Mr Jaitley said, the UPA government did not take any meaningful step during its tenure and questioned Rahul Gandhi if he was so serious over OROP why he did not take any action when Congress was in power.
Mr Jaitley said, fitment of pension amount will be reviewed every five years as against 10 years for government employees. On other unresolved issues, Mr Jaitley said, Justice Reddy Committee has submitted its report to the Defence Ministry. He assured that all the issues regarding OROP will be resolved within two months.
On remarks made by Union Minister V K Singh on the alleged suicide of the ex-serviceman, the Finance minister said, nobody should turn personal tragedy into political gain and all leaders should exercise caution and be sensitive.
