Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has asked the authorities to expedite the implementation of the Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP) in a time bound manner. Chairing the review meeting on the progress of the implementation of PMDP project at Nehru Guest House in Srinagar today he said, it will create jobs for the people of J&K.
Mr Singh said, the Centre has already sanctioned 62, 599 crore rupees which amounts to 78 percent of the total cost of the PMDP package. The total outlay of PMDP is 80,068 crore rupees that includes 63 projects. Mr Singh said, an investment of about five thousand 810 crore rupees under Power Sector is being made to improve the transmission and distribution network in the state. He said that for the construction of AIIMS at Awantipora and Jammu, two thousand crore rupees each are being made available.
Besides, IIT and IIM in Jammu have already started functioning from temporary campus and the setting up of permanent campus is under progress. Similarly under the Health Sector 900 crore rupees is available for completion of ongoing health infrastructure. During the meeting, other developmental projects under Urban Development, Solar Energy, Horticulture and Tourism were also reviewed.
The Home Minister said, the 4 laning project of Chenani- Nashri section of NH-1A has been completed with project cost to the tune of 781 crore rupees. He said, PMDP includes assistance for completely damaged or partially damaged houses due to 2014 floods and the project costing 1200 crore rupees is now complete. The Home Minister said, the rehabilitation package for Jammu migrants has been implemented under the package.
The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Mahbooba Mufti, Deputy Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, Union Home Secretary, Principal Secretaries, and senior officers of Ministry of Home Affairs. The Chief Minister assured the State Government’s full support in the implementation of the PMDP and on all other fronts.
The Union Home Minister today reached Srinagar on a four-day visit to J&K. He is accompanied by the Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba and senior officers of Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). Earlier on his arrival, Mr Singh held one to one meeting with the chief Minister in Srinagar. Officials said, the Home Minister had detailed discussion on political, security and developmental issues of the State with Ms Mufti.
Various delegations including House Boat Owners Association of Kashmir, Kashmir Hotel & Restaurant Association, Travel Agents Association of Kashmir and other delegations met Home Minister and apprised him about various issues and matters related to their sectors.
