Political impasse continues and the picture about the government formation in Maharashtra is not yet clear. After meeting governor, Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray today said that his party is ready to form the government. However, it needs more time to get letter of support from NCP-Congress. The leader added that the two parties have agreed in-principle to support the Sena government.

The Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari has now invited Sharad Pawar-led NCP to stake government after Shiv Sena failed to submit a letter of support from NCP and Congress within 7:30 pm. The governor’s decision came after Uddhav Thackeray’s son Aaditya sought three more days to prove majority. However, the Governor rejected their demand.

Earlier in the evening, the Shiv Sena staked claim to form the new government. A delegation of Shiv Sena led by the leader of the legislature party Eknath Shinde, Thackeray scion Aaditya Thackeray and other party leaders met Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at Raj Bhawan in Mumbai this evening. The delegation expressed willingness to form a government but asked for 48 hours time to complete formalities. Earlier in the day, series of prolong meetings of Congress, NCP and Shivsena were held in Mumbai and Delhi over the formation of the new coalition government led by Shivsena.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena leader Arvind Sawant today resigned as Union Minister in the BJP-led NDA Government. Talking to media in New Delhi, Mr Sawant said, he sent his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Shiv Sena today evening claimed the Congress and the NCP have sent it crucial letters extending their support to prop up a government in Maharashtra which will be headed by the Uddhav Thackeray-led party. However, just five minutes before the 7:30pm deadline, Congress issued a statement saying that it will speak to NCP on the matter.

Even after NCP Core Committee meeting in Mumbai, the party has not cleared its stance as their alliance partner Congress decided to wait till this afternoon.
