Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu today handed over the 6 croreth connection to the beneficiary of Prime Minister’s Ujjwala Yojana in New Delhi. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Naidu complimented the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas for promoting awareness on the usage of green cooking fuel, LPG through the scheme.
He stated that Ujjwala Yojana is probably the world’s largest poverty eradication programme.
The Vice President added that it is also a step towards empowering people, and boosting self-esteem, and human dignity. He said LPG coverage from the Ujjwala scheme has risen from 55 percent in May 2014 to 90 percent in December last year. He expressed happiness that till December last year, 1.03 crore people have sacrificed their LPG subsidies thereby contributing to the expansion of Ujjwala scheme in poorer sections.
The Vice President also released a Coffee Table Book on Ujjwala at the event.
