A special court in Bangladesh, today awarded death penalty to two students, for killing secular blogger Ahmed Rajib Haider. The verdict came three years after the blogger was hacked to death in capital Dhaka. The sentence also carries various jail terms to six persons including outlawed Ansarullah Bangla Team chief, Mufti Rahmani.

The investigating officer said the two convicts Md Faisal Bin Nayem and Redwanul Azad Rana, who is absconding, had vowed to kill the blogger. They targeted Rajib for his blog posts under the nickname of Thabababa and carried out the murder in two separate groups. The blogger Haidar was hacked to death on February 15, 2013 near his house at Mirpur, Dhaka.
