Violent clashes broke out in north Kashmir’s Handwara town in protest against the alleged killing of two local youths in Army firing today. Many other protesters were reported injured some of them grievously in the incident.
The injured were rushed to hospitals for treatment. Reports said the locals were protesting against the Army for alleged molestation bid on a local girl by Army troopers. Reports said hundreds of local people surrounded Army bunker in the area and torched in anger.
Authorities have imposed Section 144 in the area to maintain law and order.
An Army spokesman in Srinagar expressing regrets over the unfortunate incident said an investigation by Army authorities has been ordered into the incident. The spokesman said anybody found guilty will be dealt as per law.
