A court in Ankara has rejected the plea to release eighteen suspects who allegedly attempted to take over the Special Forces Command in the Capital’s Golbasi district during the July 15 failed coup.

A judicial source said the trial of the suspects began on Feb 21 this year in the 14th Ankara High Criminal Court.

According to the indictment of Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office, the suspects were also accused of murdering Omer Halisdemir who became a symbol of the Turkish nation’s resistance against the coup attempt after he shot pro-coup Brig Gen Semih Terzi at the entrance of the headquarters.
