Rich tributes were paid to the martyrs of 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai today on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the attacks. On this day, in 2008, 10 armed Pakistani terrorists entered Mumbai via the Arabian Sea and attacked city’s iconic places like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Hotel Taj Mahal Palace and Tower, Hotel Trident, Nariman House (Jewish community centre) and Leopold Cafe. 166 people were killed and 300 were injured in this attacks.
Maharashtra Governor C Vidyasagar Rao, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Maharashtra Police Chief Datta Padsalgikar, Mumbai Commissioner of Police Subodh Kumar Jaiswal and many past and present police officers attended the memorial at the Police Gymkhana in south Mumbai. Family members of the policemen who lost their lives during the attacks were also present.
Memorial meets were organised across the city at various parks built in the memory of martyrs Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief Hemant Karkare, Army Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, Mumbai’s Additional Police Commissioner Ashok Kamte, Senior Police Inspector Vijay Salaskar and constable Tukaram Omble. Florals tributes were paid by family members and common citizens too.
The attacks that began on November 26, lasted till November 29. Out of the 10 terrorists, Ajmal Kasab was the only terrorist who was captured alive. He was hanged four years later on November 21, 2012, at Pune’s Yerwada jail.
