Announces additional Rs 1 lakh cr for train safety

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has said safety of trains is the topmost priority of the government. Briefing media here today on the achievements of his Ministry in the four years, Mr Goyal said, huge investments have been made for the development and modernization of Railways during the period. He said there is no shortage of funds for safety related works.
The Minister said, the number of train accidents have reduced to 62 per cent from 118 in 2013-14 to 73 in 2017-18. Mr Goyal said, Railways has been working on preventing accidents by removing unmanned crossings, improving signalling and upgrading tracks. He said, around 5,500 unmanned level crossing have been eliminated in the last four years.
The Minister said, Rashtriya Rail Sanraksha Kosh has been created with a corpus of one lakh crore rupees for making additional funds available for safety related works. On the occasion, the Minister launched two mobile application – the Rail Madad and Menu on Rails.
