Union minister of tourism K J Alphons today said that tourism sector has generated 14.62 million jobs in the country in the last four years.

Speaking at the India Tourism Mart function here the Minister said that tourism and hospitality industry was one of the fastest growing sectors, which contribute 6.88 per cent to the GDP. He said, India is one of the fastest growing destinations in the world.

Mr Alphons asserted that the biggest liberalisation to make a tourist feel welcome had started with simplification of visa system. He said, this tourism mart would provide a great platform for states who do not have their own marts.

Earlier, inaugurating the Mart, Coal and Railways Minister Piyush Goyal said, due to the cleanliness drive – Swacchata Abhiyan – the Tourism sector has received a boost as more tourists from the world over are coming to India. Mr Goyal said, newer and newer opportunities are available in the sector.
