Newly-appointed Election Commissioner of India, O P Rawat today said that time has come when the commission has to move towards real actions for ensuring active participation of persons with disabilities and providing them centre stage in electoral process.
Addressing an International Conference on Inclusion of Persons With Disabilities in Electoral Process in New Delhi today, he said, empowerment of disabled persons for democratic exercise will also help them participate in various administrative activities.
The event also witnessed signing of MoUs between India and various International Election Management Bodies for sharing knowledge and experiences to strengthen the administration for electoral process.
The National Voter’s Day is being celebrated on 25th of this month and the commission, keeping the view of ensuring participation of persons with disabilities, has come out with this year’s theme: Accessible Election.
