Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena today called upon the big nations to stop production of weapons saying there would be no terrorism in the world if the ‘powerful nations’ stop manufacturing weapons. He contended that no terrorist organization in the world produces weapons.

Speaking at a function, the President said that the countries who are at the top of technological advancements speak of peace and human rights, yet the same technology is used to destroy human beings.

The President said powerful countries in the world produce weapons and otherwise, there will be no terrorism in the world.

He stated that a world filled with character assassinations has emerged through new technology. His comments came as Sri Lanka was hit by Easter Sunday attacks which killed over 250 people including 45 foreigners.

Security has been tight all over the country and arrests of suspects continue. Catholic churches held their Sunday prayers for the first time today after the attacks amidst tight security.

Meanwhile, police curfew was imposed in Chilaw area owing to a tense situation that occurred earlier today.

The situation occurred when the residents of the area had objected to a social media post and attacked shops and houses of a particular community. The person who made the post was arrested by the police.
