Fresh firing was reported after a lull of few hours today when security forces were conducting combing operation after killing four terrorists who attacked the Air Force Base in Pathankot in Punjab. The search operation of air base is also going on to find out any terrorist hidden in the area.

Now air force choppers have been pressed into service and gunships are being used. Air force, Army and NSG commandos are participating in the operation while Punjab police is providing security from outside.

In the operation which started in the morning at 3.30 am, four terrorsts were shot dead while two security personnel attained martyrdom. Six injured have been admitted in the hospital. Media reports that one IAF personnel has also been killed in the encounter with terrorist, taking the toll of security personnel to three.

Punjab police has cordoned off the area around airbase and whole Pathankot city has been put under security alert. security has been strengthened around all major installations and along with the Indo- Pak border in Punjab. Senior officers of Punjab police have reached on the spot.

This is the second major terrorist attack which Punjab has seen in less than six months after an earlier one in Dinanagar in Gurdaspur district in July last year.
