Incessant heavy rains lashed several parts of Telangana inundating low lying areas at many places. Several streams, irrigation canals and tanks are overflowing due to heavy rains and floodwater inundated roads in some areas.

The state Government has put district officials on high vigilance. Control rooms have been opened at the secretariat in Hyderabad and some district headquarters like Mulugu, Warangal Rural and Karimnagar and Khammam districts for conducting relief operations and taking rescue measures.

Two helicopters including one from the Armed forces have been kept as standby for carrying rescue operations, if necessary.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has directed officials to remain vigilant and ensure no human loss as the Met officials warned that heavy rains are likely to continue for two more days.

Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar reviewed the situation, district wise, along with Director General of Police and other senior officials. People have been asked to contact the State Control Room 040-23450624 at the secretariat in Hyderabad for any help.

Meanwhile, Venkatapuram in Mulugu district received the highest 22.4 cms of rainfall during the past 24 hours. Several parts of Mulugu, Karimnagar, Asifabad and Warangal Rural districts also received extremely heavy to very heavy rainfall during the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Met officials warned that heavy to very heavy rains are likely at some parts of the state for two more days and another low pressure area is likely to form in the Bay of Bengal by Wednesday next.
