HYDERABAD: (AMN) The Congress MPs and Legislators from Telangana region have called off their hunger strike following assurance from the State Government that the cases against students and other would be withdrawn. State Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy has handed over a letter to Congress Working Committee Member K Kesava Rao to this affect in Hyderabad. 

Led by Congress Working Committee member K Kesava Rao, the fasting leaders were unrelenting when the state government appealed to them to call off the stir and announced withdrawal of 135 more cases involving about 850 persons yesterday. The state Government had already lifted off 565 cases providing relief to over 2400 persons and assured during the last assembly session that the remaining simple cases would be considered to withdraw in phases. However, the Government has reviewed the situation after the Congress elected members launched the agitation and conveyed it’s in principle acceptance to withdraw all cases. 

In another development the Srikrishna Committee will submit its report on Telangana issue in next three days. Talking to the reporters in New Delhi today, the Chairman of the committee Justice B N Srikrishna said that the report provides for a permanent solution to the issue. He expressed hope it will be to the satisfaction of the largest section of the people. He added that while preparing the report it has been discussed with all the political parties in Andhra Pradesh. Justice Krishna asserted that the political parties have assured that they will maintain peace in the state after the report is out. Pannel’s Member secretary and Former Union Home Secretary V.K. Duggal who was also present at the press meet, said that the committee has dealt with all issues in detail and recommended a holistic solution.
