Five hundred doctors and a thousand nurses have been newly recruited in Tamil Nadu in the wake of the looming novel Coronavirus threat.
One thousand five hundred and eight new lab technicians have also been hired through the state Medical Recruitment Board. The state health minister Dr C Vijayabhaskar has said in a tweet they would be allowed to serve in their native districts for the time being as travel restrictions are currently in force.
Meanwhile, the government has decided to increase the fleet of ambulances by inducting 200 more vehicles. The capacity in the state’s first exclusive hospital for Covid-19 treatment in Chennai has been scaled up from 350 beds to 500 beds.
