syriaAt least 42 people were killed and more than 100 injured in an air attack on a mosque in a rebel-held village in northern Syria yesterday. Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said, the mosque in the Jeenah area, in Aleppo province was packed with worshippers for evening prayers. It said many people are still trapped in the rubble of the collapsed mosque.The London-based observatory said it was unable to determine whose planes carried out the raid.

Meanwhile, US military said it carried out a deadly air strike on an Al-Qaeda meeting in northern Syria and would investigate reports that 42 civilians were killed when a mosque was struck in the raid. Spokesman for US Central Command, Colonel John J Thomas, said they did not target a mosque and the building that was targetted is about 15 meters from a mosque that is still standing.
