TOKYO
Suzuki Motor has been found to have altered pre shipment inspection data. Executives said an on-site probe by Japan’s transport ministry linked false inspection data with about 15 percent of vehicles for which records were kept.

The executives earlier conceded that about half the data for Suzuki vehicles was obtained by irregular testing methods. But they maintained the records were not falsified.

Nissan and Subaru have also been found to have manipulated records on fuel economy and exhaust emissions.

Suzuki executives say they can’t deny the company’s inspections were inadequate. They say they will ask outside experts to identify the cause of the misconduct. -NHK-
